Cyclone Montha: water being released from twin reservoirs

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has started operating the gates at Himayatsagar and Osmansagar reservoirs due to the impact of cyclonic storm Montha.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert and predicted heavy rainfall in some areas.
Discharge from the reservoirs began late Monday with a total outflow of about 2,000 cusecs. However, on Tuesday, the number and volume of gates increased due to the accumulation in the reservoirs.
By 12 noon, the total discharge was 2,700 cusec.
According to the records recorded at 20:00, when both the reservoirs were almost full, 2732 cusecs were released in Osmansagar with its 6 gates open to a height of 2 feet and 4 gates were opened to a height of 3 feet, while in Himayatsagar, an outflow of 3,963 cusecs was achieved with its four gates opened to a height of 3 feet.
The reservoirs held 3,782 tmc of water against 3,900 tmc and 2,787 tmc of water against full capacity of 2,970 tmc, respectively.
