Tesco introduces major change to delivery service – and it’s good news for shoppers | UK | News

Tesco has launched a change that will allow shoppers to order large groceries and have them delivered the same day. The major supermarket has developed its Whoosh service, available in more than 1,500 locations, to allow customers to increase their order sizes.

The express delivery service allowed customers to place small orders delivered by moped on the same day. But a new partnership with delivery company Stuart will allow food to be delivered by couriers in a car or van.

Hundreds of select Tesco stores will reportedly increase order quantity caps at certain times of the day Sun.

However, these deliveries will be subject to availability at the time of order. For example, if there are free van drivers in the area when the customer fills their cart, the full grocery option will be available in the Tesco app.

Stuart’s CEO Cornelia Rapportu told The Grocer: “If you’re near a big Tesco store you can literally order anything you want.

“Our strategy was to foster innovation and do things no one else was doing.”

“An example of this is large baskets – appreciation [shoppers] If you want to order a large basket for same day delivery and not have to wait two days.

“There is hardly anyone in the UK today other than Stuart who has this capability, which is cost-effective in every way and rewarding for courier partners.”

Larger hamper orders will incur an additional delivery charge of £2.99, but no extra service charge will apply.

The Whoosh service was first introduced in 2021. It has become increasingly popular, with a 60% annual increase in demand, according to Tesco.

Ken Murphy, Tesco’s chief executive, told The Grocer: “This is a really meaningful business now. It’s growing at a really fast rate at the moment. We believe there are some real competitive advantages that we want to exploit.”

“So you can see more investment in that. I think we still have a long way to go before we can say the model is mature.”
