Strictly star arrested on suspicion of rape won’t face charges after ‘insufficient evidence’

A Strictly star who was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman following an incident at the BBC will not face criminal charges.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on October 13 and an investigation was launched by Hertfordshire Police.

Hertfordshire Police said the investigation was closed due to ‘insufficient evidence’.

In a statement, Hertfordshire Police said: ‘No charges will be brought against a person arrested on suspicion of rape by Hertfordshire Constabulary in London on Monday 13 October 2025.

‘The man, whose bail has been extended from Tuesday, January 6, until Tuesday, April 7, 2026, to allow for further investigation, will not face any further action.

‘Early advice was sought from the Crown Prosecution Service, but detectives decided there was insufficient evidence to lay charges.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Hertfordshire Police for comment.

The arrest was the latest scandal on the BAFTA-winning programme. This comes just three months after another unnamed male star was arrested on suspicion of rape.

In August, police said a man was arrested on suspicion of rape and “non-consensual intimate image abuse.”

The Metropolitan Police investigation continues.

It has been plagued with scandals in recent years.

In 2024, bosses were forced to fight back against a series of damaging allegations that questioned the integrity of the show when Amanda Abbington accused former professional dancer Giovanni Pernice of ‘abusive and cruel’ behavior in the 2023 series.

This led to a £250,000 forensic internal investigation; This supported some of Amanda’s complaints, but not the most serious ones.

Professional dancer Graziano Di Prima has been sacked after admitting he kicked his celebrity partner Zara McDermott during rehearsals for the same series.

The dance act had to bring in chaperones to monitor training sessions as part of the company’s maintenance duty plans ahead of the 2024 series.

Precautions also included a member of the production team being present at all times during rehearsals and increased support for both celebrity contestants and professional dancers. A celebrity outreach producer and a professional dancer outreach producer were also brought in.

Last year, contestant Wynne Evans was recorded making sexually explicit remarks while posing for a group photo for the Strictly tour at the Birmingham Arena. As a result he was removed as a radio presenter by the BBC.

In February, BBC bosses cleared two Strictly stars of allegedly using cocaine following a complaint from former contestant Wynne.

The company launched an investigation into the show and hired an outside law firm to conduct the investigation last summer following the accusation.

After no evidence was found to support Wynne’s claim, the program is now clear.

Last month a Strictly source said: ‘The BBC took Wynne’s claim so seriously that they funded an external investigation to ensure no stone was left unturned.

‘But the investigation is now over and it’s business as usual. While Wynne may seem to be making claims about this, he certainly has a clean bill of health. ‘Everyone involved in Strictly is now looking forward to a great, clean, fresh start later this year.’

Bosses will be relieved by the news as they look for two presenters to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who left at the end of last year.

There were concerns that the toxicity surrounding the program might have put off potential stars from supporting the long-running show.

Wynne’s alleged drug use was made in a legal application made to the BBC by law firm Russells in March last year.

The singer, who was partnered with dancer Katya Jones in the 2024 series, made the claim after he was kicked off the Strictly tour in January 2025.
