Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Yellow Line will run every 15 minutes during peak hours with the introduction of the fifth train from November 1. Afternoon services will be operated by four trains, with additional trains expected to be added by the end of November to increase frequency and reduce commuter waiting times.
Bengaluru commuters will soon see increased metro frequency on the Yellow Line Namma Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that trains will run every 15 minutes during peak hours from November 1. The move comes alongside the launch of the fifth trainset into passenger service, aiming to improve travel convenience on one of the city’s busiest corridors.
Rush Hour Timings and Frequency
According to BMRCL, peak hours are defined as 8 am to noon and 4 pm to 9 pm. During these periods, passengers can expect trains at 15-minute intervals, compared to the previous 19-minute frequency. However, only four trains will remain in operation during the afternoon off-peak hours (noon to 4pm).
A senior BMRCL official had earlier clarified that no train has been kept on hold since the Yellow Line was opened. “Now that we have five trains, we will keep one on standby in the afternoons when passenger numbers are relatively low,” the official said.
New Train Induction and Testing
The newly put into service six-car train produced by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in Bengal arrived in Bengaluru on September 30. Before entering service, it underwent a series of static and dynamic tests, including mainline trials at night, which delayed its earlier commissioning.
BMRCL also confirmed that the sixth train from TRSL is expected by the end of November, while the seventh and eighth trains are in advanced stages of production after their bogies arrived from China.
Overview of the Yellow Line Corridor
The 19.15 kilometer Yellow Line connecting Caravan Road to Bommasandra became operational on 11 August. It connects south and southeast Bengaluru, passing through major hubs such as the Silk Board Junction, and has become a critical route for daily commuters navigating the city’s traffic-heavy corridors.
The introduction of additional trains and improvement in frequency is expected to reduce waiting times, ease traffic congestion and provide a more reliable commuting experience for thousands of metro commuters in Bengaluru.
