Who wins Women’s World Cup 2025 trophy if India vs South Africa final gets washed out? Scenarios explained

Rain threatens the 2025 Women’s World Cup Final between India and South Africa in Navi Mumbai. What will happen if the title fight between IND-W and SA-W comes to an end: will India lift the trophy or will both teams be crowned joint champions? It is explained here.

The stage is set for a crucial clash as India Women take on South African Women in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. But as the anticipation builds, ominous clouds loom over the highly anticipated final, threatening to turn this highly anticipated encounter into a rainy spectacle.

Both teams performed outstandingly throughout the tournament. While India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, reached the final with consecutive victories, South Africa, captained by Laura Wolvaardt, proved to be the most reliable team by defeating India in the group stage earlier.

This sets the stage for a thrilling showdown: India’s gritty batting line-up against South Africa’s methodical pace attack. But the weather can have its own agenda.

Navi Mumbai is expected to experience humid conditions, overcast skies and a few afternoon showers on Sunday, according to AccuWeather.

Further adding to concerns, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in Mumbai and surrounding areas, including Navi Mumbai, on Sunday morning. Even though the DY Patil outfield has excellent drainage, persistent rain can still cause delays or lead to the match being canceled entirely.

What happens if the final is cancelled?

This is where it gets complicated! If rain stops any play on Sunday the match will be postponed to a reserve day on Monday 3 November. However, if the rain continues and the reserve day is also affected, both South Africa Women and India Women will become joint World Cup champions, sharing the trophy.
