Loftus dog attack: Pensioner mauled by huge dog as police swarm street | UK | News

Two men, one aged 74, were attacked by a “large dog” as emergency services attended the scene in Loftus, North Yorkshire.

A 50-year-old man was also bitten and is being treated for an ankle injury.

Police arrested the dog’s 64-year-old owner in connection with the attack, which occurred at around 9.25 am on Friday, October 31.

The 74-year-old man is still in hospital with serious injuries to his arm.

Cleveland Police described the dog as a large mongrel. The animal was taken under control by the officers and taken to a private kennel.

Eyewitnesses said that six police vehicles arrived at the scene after the attack and two ambulances were ready.

The arrested man was later released on bail pending further investigation.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident on West Road, Loftus, shortly before 9.30am on Friday, October 31. We sent two double-crewed ambulances and a specialist paramedic. The two patients were taken to James Cook University Hospital.

A spokesman for the force said: “A 74-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his arm and remains in hospital. A 50-year-old man was also bitten by the dog and received treatment on his wrist in hospital before being discharged. The dog’s 64-year-old owner was arrested in connection with the incident and questioned, then released on bail pending further investigation.”
