‘Social Network’ star Jesse Eisenberg announces altruistic kidney donation

“The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg makes a selfless donation.

“Actually, I will donate my kidney in six weeks,” he said while participating in the program recently.Today” show. “I really am.”

Eisenberg said the decision was made after donating blood, but explained that he did not have a specific reason.

“I don’t know why,” he remarked. “I’ve been bitten by the blood donation virus. I’m making an altruistic donation in mid-December. I’m so excited to do it.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, altruistic donation occurs when a person chooses to donate a kidney to someone they do not know who is in need.

“It’s essentially risk-free and therefore necessary,” Eisenberg told the outlet. “I think people will realize that it’s a very simple thing if you have the time and the inclination.”

He explained the donation process, which helps with the organ shortage currently experienced in the United States. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is a greater need for organs than can be obtained from deceased donors.

“Let’s say person

“That person can still get my kidney, and hopefully that person’s child will donate their kidney, right? But that goes to a bank where that person can find a buyer, but that only works if there’s a fundamentally altruistic donor,” he said.

Eisenberg also referenced the National Kidney Registry’s family voucher program. Some people choose not to donate if a family member needs an organ at some point.

The family voucher program now allows up to five members of the donor’s family to receive vouchers. The voucher allows a family member to be prioritized on the transplant list if they need an organ. Once one coupon is used, the remaining four cannot be used.

“The way it works now is you can put a list of whoever you want at the top of the list,” Eisenberg said. he said.

“So it’s risk-free for my family,” he said.
