Naomi Osaka stuns spectators at French Open after revealing custom gold Nike dress and outfit made from cuttings of her old tennis clothes
Naomi Osaka wowed the crowd at Roland Garros with another sensational entry into her French Open first round match.
The Japanese star is known for her flashy outfits at tournaments and she failed to disappoint once again when she stepped out for Court Suzanne in a black corset and matching skirt made from off-cuts of her old tennis clothes.
Before her match began, she unzipped her corset to reveal half of her shiny gold custom Nike dress covered in sequins and posed for photos before taking off her skirt before her opening set against Germany’s Laura Siegemund.
The black bodice and pleated skirt were designed by couturier Kevin Garmanier, who worked with upcycled materials and repurposed Osaka’s old Nike competition outfits to create it.
The skirt was made using the inner layers of one of Osaka’s jackets, while old tennis skirts and dresses were also cut up and reused. The outfit was then hand encrusted with hundreds of crystals.

The outfit was designed by fashion designer Kevin Garmanier, who works with upcycled materials.
The four-time Grand Slam winner first took to the court wearing a black corset and matching skirt made from off-cuts of old Nike clothing.
“It’s so fun to watch designers work, especially when there’s something pre-existing they have to design,” said Osaka, who admitted she was worried her gold Nike outfit might blind the referee.
‘When I first saw the dress in real life, I felt like I looked like the Eiffel Tower shining at night,’ she added. ‘Then I got a little worried because when the sun hits the dress it reflects a lot. ‘I was a little afraid the referee would kick me off the field.’
‘Sometimes people talk about athletes in show business, entertainers or things like that,’ Osaka said. ‘For me, I think the Grand Slam marches are the only time I feel like an entertainer.’
Osaka is famous for her podium entrances at the Grand Slams and wore a jellyfish-inspired outfit at the Australian Open in January.
The 28-year-old arrived at Rod Laver Arena wearing a wide-brimmed hat with a white veil and an umbrella, then warmed up in a ruffled jacket and a dress that resembled tentacles.
She arrived on court at Indian Wells wearing a black mesh and cheetah-print Nike dress, sneakers and jacket, along with tribal-inspired jewelry on her lips, nose and ears.
Osaka is quite keen on her fashion and even turned heads with her ‘skin shedding’ performance on the entrance steps at this year’s Met Gala, where she wore a white jacket covered in red feathers to resemble blood, only to take it off to reveal a blood red and crystal dress designed to resemble exposed muscles, tendons and nerves.
