Coimbatore gang rape: Police arrest three accused; shot in their legs during escape bid

Police arrested three persons for allegedly gang-raping a 20-year-old college student near Coimbatore International Airport on the intervening night of November 2 and 3 at Vellakinar near Thudiyalur in the district in the early hours of Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar said the police team shot him in the legs “while he was trying to escape”.
The arrested have been identified as Guna alias Thavasi, Karupasamy alias Satheesh and Kaleeswaran alias Karthik.
They were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to the initial findings of the police, the suspects, who were engaged in construction work in Irugur, approximately 4 kilometers away from the deserted land near the airport, gang-raped the student after attacking her 25-year-old boyfriend.
Further investigation is ongoing.
