Girl, 14, charged in connection with triple stabbing at school in Manchester | UK news

A 14-year-old girl has been charged in connection with three stabbings at a school in north Manchester, police said.

The girl was charged with three counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a bladed article on school premises in connection with the incident on Tuesday.

He is due to appear at Westminster magistrates’ court on Friday.

Police confirmed that the investigation into the stabbings was being carried out by the counter-terrorism unit.

The girl was arrested after two students and a staff member were stabbed at the Co-op academy in Blackley on Tuesday morning.

Previously, Greater Manchester police said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault and detained under the Mental Health Act.

Detectives are “keeping an open mind about the motivation for the attack” and have not said it was a terrorist incident.

Division Supt David Meeney, area commander for the city of Manchester, said: “Since our last update further information has come to light of which we have made North West Counter Terrorism Policing aware.”

Meeney added: “There is no information to suggest any further threat and our local officers remain in the area. We are here to listen and take action, so please speak to our officers about your concerns.”

Police confirmed the injuries sustained by two students, a 14-year-old boy and a girl each, and a 27-year-old male staff member were consistent with stab wounds but were “not serious”.

After emergency services were called to the scene, students were quarantined and told not to leave their classrooms.

Within an hour of the stabbing, a large crowd of students, parents and passersby gathered outside the school.

Some parents said they were told nothing by the school and were forced to piece together what was happening via text and call as their children were kept in their classrooms.

In the message sent to parents, the school stated that there was an “incident” but that everyone was safe.

All 3 injured people were discharged from the hospital.
