Brit arrested over alleged Hamas terror plot to strike Jewish targets | UK | News

A British man has been arrested for allegedly playing a key role in a Hamas-linked terror cell aiming to hit Jewish targets in Germany. The 39-year-old suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is in danger of being extradited to Germany.

He was arrested on Monday, November 3, and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the same day and was remanded into custody. The Briton is wanted by the Federal Police in Germany as part of a major counter-terrorism operation that last month led to the arrest of three men suspected of plotting violence against German Jewish targets on behalf of Hamas. Hamas has previously denied having contact with the three men and said the allegations were unfounded. The National Crime Agency received an extradition request from German prosecutors, resulting in the British suspect being arrested in the UK on Monday.

The British suspect first came to the attention of counter-terrorism police in Germany in June as part of an ongoing investigation into a suspected terrorist plot, according to ITV News.

He is suspected by German authorities of overseeing the movement of firearms into the country and allegedly met with a member of the terrorist cell while under surveillance.

He is due to appear in court via video link next week.

German prosecutors said the trio arrested in Berlin last month were Hamas operatives responsible for the supply of weapons and ammunition to be used in domestic terrorist acts targeting Jewish or Israeli institutions.

“During today’s arrests, various weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle and several handguns, as well as a significant amount of ammunition, were located,” federal prosecutors said in a statement released last month. they said.

In accordance with Germany’s privacy laws, they have been identified only as German citizens Abed Al G and Ahmad I, and Lebanese-born Wael FM.

Hamas is banned in Germany and is classified as a terrorist organization, as it is in the UK.
