Bihar Assembly polls LIVE: High-voltage campaign, marked by personal attacks, divisive rhetoric, for Bihar polls phase 1 ends

The Congress on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, accused the BJP-JD(U) government in Bihar of “persistent disregard” for the safety, health and dignity of women over the last two decades and raised a series of questions to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the NDA government in Bihar for the security situation of women and said: Mahagatbandhan (The Grand Alliance) was entirely devoted to strengthening and elevating them.

Mr. Kharge said the Congress’s promises were not just about garnering votes during or just before the elections, but these were the same promises that the party would fulfill.

“The BJP-JDU government in Bihar has been in power for 20 years. Even today, Modi ji If he says ‘his daughters-in-law and daughters are not safe’ in Bihar, this is his own admission that he has not made Bihar safe for 20 years!” Mr Kharge said in a Hindi post on X:

The Congress leader said the condition of women and children was extremely alarming and based on National Family Health Survey (NFHS) data, 70 per cent of children suffered from anemia and 40 per cent were victims of malnutrition. He said only 11% of babies were receiving adequate nutrition, according to the NHFS survey.
