Worker dies in Uttarakhand as concrete block falls in NHIDCL’s Silkyara tunnel
Uttarkashi District Magistrate (DM) Prashant Arya told PTI that as per information received from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the accident occurred due to the collapse of the concrete block laid inside the tunnel.
He said that the block hit the worker’s neck and the worker died at the scene.
The deceased worker was from Jharkhand.
The concerned sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) visited the site to collect details about the incident, the DM said.
He also explained that this accident was not similar to the November 2023 Ipekyara tunnel collapse, in which 41 workers were trapped inside for several days. “In this case, there is no such thing as debris collapsing or workers being trapped,” Arya said.
According to the management, detailed information about the incident will be shared after receiving the SDM’s report.
