Erika Kirk, wife of late conservative icon and TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, opened up about the pain of her loss and the challenges of helping her two young children understand their father’s death.
In a moving interview on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Erika talked about how her faith guided her through the pain and how she found a gentle way to explain Kirk’s death to her children.
The mother of two children also explained that she copes with the night, which is the most difficult part of the day.
“Nighttime, anytime. I’ll tell them about my day. I talk to them all the time. But the hardest thing at night is being in bed alone. I’m rolling around trying to get the goodnight kiss that’s not there,” she said.

“And anyone who’s been a widow knows what that means. It’s so easy to take the little things for granted,” Erika added.
Charlie Kirk was assassinated earlier this year at the age of 31; it was a sudden loss that stunned the country. He leaves behind Erika and two children, a daughter born in August 2022 and a son born in May 2024.
As Erika struggles to navigate her life as a single mother, she continues to rely on the faith that defines their immediate family and shapes their approach to parenting.

“You told your children that Charlie was going on a business trip with Jesus. Do they still ask where their father is?” Jesse Watters asked him this question in an hour-long exclusive interview.
“Yes, my daughter keeps asking,” Erika said with emotion.
“I told him this the other day because I was like, ‘I just miss my dad and where is my dad? When is he coming home?’ he said. And I said, ‘baby, your daddy’s still with Jesus.’

“And I said they were very busy. I said, ‘If you want to talk to your father, raise your head to the sky and start talking.’ “I told him I said this: ‘You know, dad, daddy is in heaven,'” he said.
“And he said, ‘Does that mean she’s in a different house?’ he said. I said, ‘Yes, baby, he’s building a house for us.’ Some might call it a mansion. ‘I think I can go sometime,’ he says. Children are very precious. “I said, ‘Baby, one day we’ll all be gone,'” Erika said, reflecting on the innocence of her daughter’s questions.
