What are you doing? A special drive across the district to check school buses, private coaches, trucks, vans and other vehicles continued for the third consecutive day in Prakasam district on Thursday.
Following the instructions of SP V. Harshavardhan Raju district, 33 police teams carried out inspections in various parts of the district and inspected a total of 2,044 vehicles as part of the drive. Police stated that 213 vehicles were detected that violated Motor Vehicles Act regulations and did not have valid documents. A total fine of ₹ 1,56,275 was imposed through Challans.
During the inspections, police interacted with school bus drivers and students to raise awareness about road safety. Authorities announced that most accidents were caused by lack of attention while driving and advised students not to distract the elderly while driving.
Police personnel warned that even a moment of negligence could result in serious accidents and endanger not only the driver but also other road users. They emphasized that learning about road safety from a young age helps instill responsible driving habits for the future.
Officials also instructed school bus drivers to ensure that safety equipment such as window breaker and fire extinguisher are available and functional in every vehicle. Drivers have been advised to keep essential safety kits provided by vehicle manufacturers intact and in place.
Harshavardhan warned that vehicles without mandatory safety equipment would face legal action in the next round of inspections. He reiterated that violations of the Motor Vehicles Act would attract stringent enforcement measures.
