Georgia man Delano Middleton charged with murder after Walmart stabbing

A man previously convicted of a violent crime is accused of killing a teenager at a Walmart in Georgia.
Authorities in Savannah, Georgia, said 48-year-old Delano Middleton allegedly stabbed 18-year-old JT Schroeder at a local Walmart on Oct. 23. The 18-year-old was stabbed “during an altercation” at Walmart, the Chatham County Police Department wrote to X. He died four days later.
Middleton was charged with murder in connection with the stabbing. Accordingly World Trade OrganizationPolice allege Schroeder kicked Middleton’s shopping cart.
According to the publication, Middleton stabbed a woman multiple times four years ago.

Schroeder had dreams of becoming a merchant seaman and already had a sponsorship, according to his obituary.
“The world lost a beautiful soul too soon,” his obituary says. “JT loved people deeply and had a smile that could light up any room. His heart was so big that he had countless friends who each felt like they were his favorite person. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone he had just met, he had a way of making everyone feel seen and included.”
According to his obituary, the 18-year-old gave “the gift of life to seven families” by donating his organs after his death.

Erica Young said that on October 22, 2021, Middleton entered the U-Haul store where she worked, stole the keys from behind the desk, and then went outside where he planned to buy a truck, WTOC reported.
Middleton then stabbed Young several times in the stomach and head; He said that according to the news source, this attack was not provoked.
“While I was on the ground, he told me he wanted to watch me bleed,” Young said. “I had never met him, had no contact with him before that day.”

In December 2023, Middleton took a negotiated plea deal and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. As part of the agreement, Middleton was sentenced to 2 years in prison followed by 8 years of supervised release.
Young said the sentence was too lenient and only encouraged him to resort to violence in the future.
“Honestly, that’s my real opinion on this,” Young said. “He got away with stabbing me, so he thought he could get away with it again.”
The stabbing victim said Schroeder’s death made him want to fight for a harsher sentence.

“I’m so sorry for their loss,” Young said. “I wish I had fought harder, then he wouldn’t have been able to get off the streets. But I have two children, so I ran away. We filled our whole house.”
Middleton is being held in the Chatham County Jail, where he is being held on no bail.
