Eamonn Holmes speaks out for the first time after suffering a stroke as he shares sweet message from his family

Eamonn Holmes has spoken out for the first time since revealing he had a stroke, sharing a sweet message from his family on Sunday.

The 66-year-old GB News presenter was hospitalized on Tuesday after falling ill and released a statement saying she was ‘recovering’ from her health scare.

In a post on Instagram, Eamonn shared a sweet photo of his two grandchildren holding signs saying ‘get well soon’ for him.

Giving fans information about his health, the actor wrote in his post: ‘As my beautiful Grandchildren express so beautifully, I will do my best to get better SOON.

‘Thank you all for your good wishes, they give me strength.’

Just hours earlier, Eamonn’s son Declan said the stroke had come as a ‘real shock’ to the family.

In a post on Instagram, the streamer thanked her followers for their well wishes and said they gave her ‘strength’

She said: ‘I just wanted to share a quick message to say we appreciate all the messages so much, they mean so much to us as a family.

‘What happened has come as a real shock, but considering the circumstances my father is doing well and we are taking it one step at a time.

‘We’re focusing on him for now and keeping things stable around him.

‘As we move forward on this path and whatever lies ahead, we would really value some privacy, but again thank you for your support because it means so much to my dad and the rest of the family.’

Eamonn was due to return to UK News Breakfast on Monday to appear on the show, which he co-hosts with Ellie Costello from Monday to Wednesday.

Alex Armstrong will step in to present in his absence this week.

Announcing his stroke, a UK News spokesperson said: ‘Eamonn fell ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.

‘He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn asked for privacy as he focuses on recovery.

‘His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to The People’s Channel when he is ready to return.’

GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said: ‘Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family and we are with him every step of the way as he recovers.’

Eamonn recently shared a ‘terrible’ health update and claimed the ‘ageist’ TV industry ‘don’t want to know him’ because he is now older and in a wheelchair.

The broadcaster had undergone double hip replacement surgery in 2016, but suffered three slipped discs and a pelvic dislocation in 2021.

He had major spinal surgery the following year and has had other health problems over the past few years.

Eamonn appeared to have fallen asleep in the studio while being interviewed by the Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary and MP Darren Jones last month.

Eamonn’s eyes were closed as Ellie asked Darren about the Mandelson files, and later during the conversation he picked up a pen and tried to cap it.

After the end of the interview, Eamonn told the audience: ‘We’ll see you live again and again early in the morning. Whatever you’re doing, have a nice day!’

Eamonn later hit back at claims he ‘fell asleep’ live on air.

The star broke the record last month when she took to the stage at Hayley Palmer’s An Audience With… show at London’s Hippodrome Casino.

He said: ‘I was looking at my microphone pack to see why it wasn’t working as we didn’t have floor managers or camera operators.

‘Apparently I was sleeping? Anyway!’
