Hindalco to Build Rs.586 Cr Aluminium Plant in Chittor for iPhone Chassis

Vijayawada: In the second narrative of his series on major investments in Andhra Pradesh, Education, IT and Electronics minister Nara Lokesh highlighted that Hindalco Industries, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has been set up at Kuppam in Chittoor district with an investment of ₹ 586 crore.
“The advanced aluminum extrusion plant in Kuppam is a clear example of Andhra Pradesh’s policy clarity, rapid implementation and investor-friendly environment,” he emphasized in his social media post on Saturday.
Lokesh claimed that this investment aims to position Andhra Pradesh prominently in Apple’s global supply chain, as the plant’s high-quality aluminum will form the casing of iPhones. The Kuppam plant is expected to not only integrate Andhra Pradesh into the global electronics manufacturing value chain but also promote sub-industries and create locally skilled jobs.
Significantly, the announcement comes just ahead of the CII Partnership Summit 2025, where Andhra Pradesh will showcase its continued growth and policy initiatives in the manufacturing and industrial sectors.
“Andhra Pradesh is proud to welcome global metals leader Hindalco, which has invested ₹ 586 crore in a state-of-the-art aluminum extrusion plant at Kuppam that will create 613 direct jobs along with several hundred indirect jobs,” Lokesh said in a post to his social media followers. He highlighted that the plant’s location in Kuppam, just 120 km from Bengaluru and 200 km from Chennai, and the state’s strong renewable energy hub area are in line with Hindalco’s strategic choice to align with its sustainability goals.
Hindalco managing director Satish Pai highlighted Kuppam’s strategic advantages in a testimonial video shared by the minister. “We chose Kuppam due to its location in the electronics hub of South India with excellent logistics, skilled workforce and supportive local and state government,” Pai said.
Hindalco MD went on to explain that Andhra Pradesh’s production-linked incentive scheme changed their decision to set up their units in Kuppam.
