Woman, Daughter Die by Suicide After Jumping Before Train in Chengalpattu
Chennai: A woman and her daughter died after they allegedly jumped in front of a high-speed train in Chengalpattu district, police said on Tuesday. A senior Government Railway Police official said the incident took place near a railway gate in the area on November 10.
Police said that the 36-year-old woman suffered great distress due to the death of her son, who drowned in a pond near their home on November 8. He added that his 13-year-old daughter is mentally disabled.
On Monday, the mother told her neighbors that she was going out and taking her daughter with her. After reaching the railway track, they allegedly jumped in front of the Tirupati-Puducherry train and died on the spot, the official said.
The bodies were sent to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for autopsy. The police were later handed over to the family.
