Several people killed as bus hits pedestrians
London: At least three people were killed and three others were seriously injured in a horror scene in which a public bus crashed into pedestrians in central Stockholm, police said.
The driver was arrested and police said they were treating the deaths, which occurred after the double-decker vehicle crashed into people waiting at a bus stop, as manslaughter; some accounts claimed the vehicle was heading towards the victims.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that among the victims were people who went home to their families and friends.
“We don’t yet know the reason for this, but my thoughts at this time are primarily with those affected and their loved ones,” he wrote to X.
“Police, ambulance and rescue services now have a very difficult and important job. I call on everyone to take their duties into account and show understanding.”
Swedish news agency TT said police confirmed the driver had been detained and would be questioned to determine what happened. There was serious damage to the front of the bus.

Authorities were alerted to the crash just after 3pm Stockholm time on Friday (01am AEDT on Saturday) when the vehicle hit people at the bus stop on Valhallavagen, a street in the Östermalm district of the Swedish capital.
Many reports stated that the public transport bus was out of service at the time and had no passengers on board.
