Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday organized a State-wide demonstration objecting to the Election Commission of India’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu.
The party held a protest at Swami Sivananda Salai in Chennai, attended by TVK general secretary N. Anand, TVK general secretary (election campaign management) Aadhav Arjuna and senior officials.
Speaking at the demonstration, Mr. Anand said the SIR exercise requires a thorough investigation and officials should be given powers to visit every household.
He said the Election Commission should consult all political parties, including the TVK, and ensure that there are no mistakes in the process.
Meeting of all parties
Mr. Arjuna questioned why the State government had not brought a resolution against SIR in the Assembly. He said that the state government should hold a meeting on this issue with the participation of all parties.
He also said that the Election Commission should release a short explanatory video to explain the SIR process to the public.
