‘You’re sweating a lot…someone is using…’

Girija also stated that the intimate scenes on the set were far from romantic, describing the experience as mechanical. He compared kissing on screen to kissing on cardboard, emphasizing the lack of emotional connection.
The internet’s latest ‘National Crush’, Girija Oak, recently opened up about the mechanics of on-screen kisses and revealed that they are far from intimate or dreamy. He explained how factors like lighting, shadows and camera angles stand out and make it difficult to feel romantic.
Girija Oak reveals the truth behind intimate scenes
Girija Oak revealed the reality of shooting romantic scenes with lights, warmth and crowds of 150 people watching. He said that with fans and air conditioners turned off to prevent sound dropouts, the set could be overwhelming and intimate scenes could feel quite awkward. “Whenever I go to events where there are a lot of women, they ask me how I romance on screen. It becomes a very interesting conversation. You sweat a lot… There’s sweat on your back and the microphone transmitter attached to your body gets hot. You’re wearing a costume and someone uses a hairdryer to dry your sweat,” he said in an interview with The Lallantop.
Girija also revealed that he was annoyed that actors had to worry about lighting, shadows and camera angles. “Someone comes and says the light is low from downstairs, so a piece of thermocol comes in and reflects the light onto your face. Someone else checks your hair. How are you going to romance when so many people are looking at you critically,” he said.
Girija also stated that the intimate scenes on the set were far from romantic, describing the experience as mechanical. He compared kissing on screen to kissing on cardboard, emphasizing the lack of emotional connection. “Someone asked me what it felt like to kiss on screen. I said it felt like kissing cardboard. There can be no emotion. Everything is mechanical. When you get close to the camera and have to say something, it’s a close-up of you. The other person is not in front of you. You’re looking at the camera or looking at the corner of a cutter stand. I’ve had the most loving conversations while looking at a piece of thermocol, a black cloth, or the corner of a light stand,” he added.
Girija on the work front
Girija made his acting debut in Marathi cinema with the movie Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi. He has also worked in Hindi films like Gulmohar, Taare Zameen Par, Shor in the City and Jawan. She will next be seen in a web series titled Therapy Sherapy, starring Gulshan Devaiah.
