How long will the UK heatwave last?
Parts of the UK are experiencing heatwave conditions, with temperatures set to reach 35C on Tuesday
Temperatures are expected to reach 35°C in London and parts of south-east England; This is higher than the UK’s current May temperature record of 32.8°C.
“Today will be the hottest day of May in the UK based on our temperature records, with top temperatures of 35 degrees expected,” a Met Office spokesman said. “Records are often broken by tenths of a degree, making this heatwave unprecedented for this time of year.”
High temperatures of 30 to 34 degrees are expected in many parts of the UK and will continue until Tuesday, when temperatures are expected to reach 35 degrees again.
A heatwave has been officially declared in eight places in south-east England, with temperatures exceeding the 27C threshold for three consecutive days of hot weather.
Yellow heat health warnings have been issued for the east Midlands, west Midlands, eastern England, London and the South East.
Authorities have warned that hot weather could cause significant impacts on health and social care services.
How long will the heatwave forecast last?
The Met Office is now predicting high temperatures of 35C will also be seen in London on Tuesday.
The highest temperature on Wednesday is expected to be in southwest England and south Wales and reach 28 degrees in the afternoon.

In the east the breeze on the coast becomes cooler, but in other places it remains very hot. Mainly dry, but a few showers possible at times.
