TikTok influencer goes viral explaining why she won’t split bills

With over 4.8 million TikTok followers, Becca Bloom has won the crown of queen of #RichTok and isn’t shy about enjoying the good things in life. The influencer and entrepreneur recently went viral in a TikTok video after explaining why she doesn’t split the bills with her husband, arguing that the “gender gap” makes true financial equality impossible.

Cut Bloom reportedly said that her husband did not help pay her bills and that she believed he was covering all expenses “at the bare minimum.”

The article also stated that Bloom’s parents are technology entrepreneurs and real estate investors whose company was valued at $98.2 million in 2010.

Bloom often flaunts her love of luxury on her TikTok page; She shares her shopping sprees at Hermès, enjoys caviar, and shows off her Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds.

On her TikTokWomen live in a society where “equality has never existed,” Bloom said. She added, “So yes, my husband pays all the bills. And yes, I think that’s the bare minimum.”

She continued that women earn approximately 80 percent of what men earn for the same job and used this statistic to underscore her argument.

Bloom defined equality as “balanced responsibility” and emphasized that true justice takes into account broader social and economic inequalities between the sexes.

She also noted that women often pay more to exist in the dating world, around $400 a month to maintain their appearance due to beauty standards that she says are “created by men.”

Bloom also highlighted the security concerns women face compared to men, explaining how many of them share their location with friends or carry security devices just to feel safe on a dinner date.

Bloom received mixed reactions in the comments.

One user responded: “I will not be taking any lessons in equality from this billionaire. Not now, not ever.”

Some other commenters appreciated the message but argued that Bloom was not the right messenger.

Another user commented on Bloom: “So he can’t talk about gender equality because he’s a billionaire?” he defended.

“Say it louder Becca,” another user said.

The Cut noted that although Bloom makes valid points, her message may not resonate with women who can’t afford luxury brands like Hermès and Chanel.

Bloom later defended herself in comments on her TikTok account, writing: “When someone fails to dispute this point, they challenge the existence of the person making it.”
