Prince Philip reportedly ordered people to monitor Sarah Ferguson’s actions and use “sound bugs” on her, a royal writer has claimed. Open Substack Lownie Report Author Andrew Lownie, famous for his latest book (Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York), claimed Philip “ordered illegal wiretapping” on the former duchess’s son, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, while she was separated from him.
According to Lownie, sources informed her that Philip appointed a private investigator to follow Sarah, 66, for a year before her divorce from Andrew in 1996. Lownie also claimed a source said Philip used “sound bugs and hidden cameras” to spy on the former duchess. In addition, it was also reported that Philip’s phone was tapped.
Lownie’s allegations come as the former duchess continues to keep a low profile after it was revealed months ago that she had emailed convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein after he was released from prison for child sex offenses in 2011.
In the email, Sarah called Epstein her “great friend” and apologized for publicly criticizing him.
A spokesman for the former duchess claimed she only sent the email out of fear she would be sued for libel.
While the latest revelations mean that Sarah is no longer popular with the entire royal family, it may come as no surprise to know that Philip was never attracted to her after her and Andrew’s split.
She is believed to have avoided any interaction with her former daughter-in-law, especially after a photo emerged of her toes being sucked by Sarah’s lover John Bryan during a holiday in France in 1992.
It is believed that the photographs appeared in newspapers during Sarah’s stay at Balmoral; Gyles Brandreth claimed that Philip no longer wanted anything to do with him after the scandal.
Brandreth once wrote: Daily Mail: “The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that ‘enough is enough’ for himself.
“He didn’t want or need to have anything more to do with her. For the remainder of Sarah’s stay at Balmoral, his actions spoke louder than words.”
