Martina Navratilova clashes on social media over transgender stance

Women’s tennis legend Martina Navratilova got into a brief social media spat with a low-profile user on

Navratilova responded to a report about a spa being forced to allow a man into a women’s locker room as a result of a discrimination lawsuit.

“To say this is wrong is an understatement,” Navratilova wrote in response.

Comedian Lou Perez responded to the tennis star, noting that Navratilova is a staunch supporter of Democrats and has been critical of President Donald Trump and other Republicans.

“You voted for this,” Perez wrote.

Navratilova responded: “I voted against totalitarianism; nice try.”

Perez then responded with a screenshot of Navratilova’s own X bio; “Voted blue despite the Dems’ stance on women’s gendered areas,” this screenshot reads.

Navratilova admitted: “I agree with the Democrats on almost everything, but at the same time I completely disagree with Trump and his minions on everything except one. Okay?!?”

Perez then invited the tennis legend to his upcoming comedy show, but Navratilova had not responded at the time of publication.

While Navratilova regularly criticizes Democrats for allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports, she has become a polarizing figure on social media for her conflicting support for liberals and opposition to Trump.

Last December, she said she was “crazy” that Republicans, rather than Democrats, were handling the nationwide debate about transgender athletes in women’s sports.

“And I’m so angry at the Republicans taking on this issue, shame on all the elected Democrats who are silent on this!!! #whataboutwomen,” she wrote to X.

The tennis legend attended the Independent Women’s Forum’s “Reclaim the Title IX” rally in June to address the issue.

“Initially, being Democrats and mostly women, those of us in this group were trying to find every possible way to include trans-identifying men, men who identify as women, in women’s sports,” she said. “The more we tried to find a way to reduce the advantage, create a handicap, incorporate it in some way, the more we realized that it’s not possible. It’s not possible to do it fairly, and we’re in a very different position here.”

“As I delved deeper into the topic, I also saw the connection between women’s gendered fields and women’s sports; they are completely interconnected, and I’m sure the swimmers at Penn can tell you all about that. You’ve heard of Lia Thomas, right?

“Now, ‘Oh, you’re a homophobe.’ Come on figure. “I’ve been out since ’81, yes, I’m a homophobe,” he said, rolling his eyes. “‘You’re a bigot, you’re a transphobe, you’re a Nazi, you’re a fascist, you’re a communist,’ and anything and everything in between. And it’s coming from the left. I’m the left! My people are turning their backs on me. They’re turning their backs on us, the women, who speak out for women’s gender-based rights.”
