Four more arrested in Louvre heist probe: prosecutor

French police have arrested four more people as part of their investigation into last month’s spectacular Louvre jewel heist, the Paris prosecutor’s office said.

In the statement made by Laure Beccuau, it was stated that the suspects were two men, aged 38 and 39, and two women, aged 31 and 40.

His statement did not specify what role they were suspected of playing in the October 19 burglary.

The statement stated that four more people were arrested on October 29 and November 1 and subjected to official investigation.

The daytime robbery, in which four thieves stole jewels worth US$102 million ($158 million), has cast doubt on the credibility of the world’s most visited museum as the custodian of its countless artifacts.

So far, no trace of the stolen jewels has been found.

It includes the diamond and emerald necklace that Napoleon gave to Empress Marie-Louise, jewels attached to 19th-century Queens Marie-Amélie and Hortense, and Empress Eugénie’s pearl and diamond tiara.
