Authorities of Pakistan’s Adiala Prison, where former prime minister Imran Khan is currently detained, moved to dispel widespread speculation on social media on Wednesday by confirming that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder is “completely healthy” and remains inside.

Rumors spread quickly on social media, including unconfirmed reports that he had been killed or transported elsewhere. Prison officials called these allegations “unfounded” and lies.

According to the statement, this was meant to reassure the public and Khan’s political party after calling for an official government statement on Khan’s condition and whereabouts.

Health and Transfer: “There is no truth in the news about his transfer from Adiala prison. He is completely healthy and is receiving full medical care,” Geo News quoted officials as saying. he said.

PTI Request: PTI party immediately asked the government to clarify the situation and requested the authorities to facilitate immediate meeting of Khan with his family, claiming that the state is responsible for his safety and constitutional rights.

Unconfirmed reports and speculation about the death gained momentum following rising tensions outside the Adiala Jail checkpoint last week.

Family Protest: Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and faces an “undeclared assembly ban” for more than a month; his three sisters Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Dr. Uzma Khan organized a sit-in protest.

Alleged Police Attack: In a letter to the Punjab police chief, the sisters called for an impartial investigation into the “brutal and planned” attack they allegedly faced with PTI supporters outside the prison.

Noreen Niazi said she was “grabbed by my hair, violently thrown to the ground and dragged across the road” by Punjab police personnel during a peaceful protest.

Meeting Denied: It was reported that even Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Prime Minister Sohail Afridi could not get a meeting with Imran Khan despite trying seven times in a row.

The prison administration emphasized that they ensured the health of the former prime minister in an environment where the intense political atmosphere as well as the concerns from his party and family continued.
