Your Party or Our Party: Your Party reveals new name options after months of indecision

Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana have revealed the options they are considering for the new name of their political party, currently known as “Your Party”.

After months of indecision and confusion over the party’s name, its members will vote on various options at its inaugural conference in Liverpool this weekend.

These include four options: Your Party, Our Party, Popular Alliance and For the Majority.

It comes after the crisis-hit party refused to have co-leaders following a series of public spats between Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana earlier this week.

At this weekend’s conference, members will vote on a new leadership model for the party, with options such as a “collective leadership model” or supporting a single leader.

However, in the longer term your Party may consider bringing back the co-leader option, with a member-led review of leadership structures exploring options for deputy leader, co-leadership and relationships with the party leadership in Wales and Scotland once the party is established in each country.

It follows a turbulent first few months for the party, marred by internal division, with a dispute between Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana resulting in a failed membership launch and threats of legal action.

Ms Sultana complained that she was being subjected to a “sexist boys’ club” after supporters were invited to officially become members of the party and provide financial support to it.

But Mr Corbyn described it as an “unauthorised email” and warned people not to sign up via the link in a statement published on social media just hours later.

To make matters worse for the party, two MPs who helped establish the organization have now resigned.

Last week Iqbal Mohammed said in a statement that he had decided to leave your Party and continue to serve the Dewsbury and Batley constituency as an Independent MP.

The statement comes after MP Adnan Hussain announced earlier this month that he was withdrawing from the party’s “governance process”, citing concerns about factionalism and “implicit bias” against Muslims.

They were among six MPs who helped launch the party, alongside Mr Corbyn, Ms Sultana and independents Shockat Adam and Ayoub Khan.

Mr Hussain, MP for Blackburn, said earlier this month that he initially agreed to support the launch of your Party because he believed in “building a political home with mass appeal” and “a force that could challenge the rise of far-right rhetoric”.

But in a statement posted on X/Twitter, he said he was disappointed by “persistent infighting, factional rivalries and struggles for power, position and influence rather than a shared commitment to the public good.”

This week’s conference, which will feature speeches from both Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana, will also feature political debates about the party’s identity, including whether it should be explicitly described as socialist.
