Andy Murray says he ‘didn’t get results’ he wanted for Novak Djokovic during partnership

Andy Murray says he “probably didn’t get the results I wanted” for Novak Djokovic when he coached his former rival.
Murray, who ended his football career at the 2024 Paris Olympics, joined Djokovic’s coaching team last November, but they left the team six months later.
In his first coaching role, Murray, 38, worked with 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic at the 2025 Australian Open and three other tournaments.
In an interview with The Tennis Podcast, Murray said: “You’re working with not only one of the best tennis players, but one of the best athletes of all time, so my expectation was that it would be extremely challenging.
“Novak, like me, is a tough character in the way he plays tennis. [it] It is extremely demanding.
“Looking back, I’m glad I did it. It was an amazing experience.”
Djokovic reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open by beating Carlos Alcaraz, but had to retire due to injury in the semi-final against Alexander Zverev.
On his return to court, Djokovic lost in the first round in Qatar and Indian Wells, then lost the Miami Open final to Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.
“It was unfortunate what happened in Australia with the injury, but I watched him play ridiculous tennis in that tournament,” Murray said.
“It’s definitely been a tough month for him after the injury, but also for the team and all of us. I’m disappointed. I probably didn’t get the results I wanted for him. But I learned a lot about what coaching is.”
