Philip Reed denies Paul Brereton had ‘incentive’ to mislead Senate

A senior anti-corruption official has denied his boss had “incentive to give misleading evidence” after apologizing for providing false information to the Senate.

Philip Reed, director general of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), wrote to the Senate on 25 November to clarify previous evidence provided by NACC commissioner Paul Brereton regarding his activities as counsel to the Inspector General of the Australian Defense Force (IGADF), the independent defense watchdog.

During earlier evidence, Reed told the Senate that Brereton’s advice to the IGADF “did not occur during the hours he was working for the commission”.
