WW3 danger as Russian military ‘prepares for conflict with NATO’ | World | News

Experts warned that the Russian military continues to implement long-standing plans in preparation for a possible war with NATO in the future. Putin’s armed forces are forming new divisions as part of a transition to a force structure based on maneuver divisions, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote in its daily report on the war in Ukraine. The Russian Pacific Fleet announced yesterday that the 155th Marine Infantry Brigade has been reorganized into the 55th Marine Division.
This comes after former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced in December 2022 that the Russian military command plans to create 17 new maneuver divisions, including the expansion of five existing marine infantry brigades into five divisions, experts noted. ISW wrote: “Given the 155th Marine Infantry Brigade’s participation in combat operations, including in the Pokrovsk direction and previously in the Kursk Oblast, the new 55th Marine Infantry Division likely does not have full doctrinal edge strength, and these operations have likely significantly disrupted the brigade.
“ISW has observed evidence supporting combat formation and deployment of at least eight new Russian divisions since December 2022.
“Since December 2022, the Russian military command has formed the 104th Airborne (VDV) Division and the 27th, 68th, 69th and 71st motorized rifle divisions from previously existing brigades and the new 67th, 70th and 72nd motorized rifle divisions.
“These divisions have probably not yet reached their doctrinal end strength because they are all committed to active combat operations.”
The following statements were made in the statement: “The Russian army will probably be able to quickly bring them to full strength after the end of the war in Ukraine.
“ISW continues to assess that the expansion of Russian conventional forces and the Russian military’s larger force structure reform back to maneuver divisions are consistent with Russia’s preparations for a possible future NATO-Russia war, as the Russian military command likely assesses that the Russian military will require greater mass and higher echelon formations to conduct effective combat operations.”
It sounds like this Donald Trump‘s special envoy Steve Witkoff will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss a peace plan that Washington hopes could end the conflict in Ukraine.
The Kremlin claimed that Russian forces had captured the key Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk in the eastern Donetsk region.
But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that clashes were still continuing.
