Trump says he’s rebuilding Dulles airport while his administration is fixing the ‘people movers’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump He said Tuesday that his administration will begin rebuilding Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia.
“We’re also going to rebuild Dulles airport because it’s not a good airport,” Trump said at a meeting with Cabinet members at the White House. “It should be a great airport, but it’s not a good airport at all. It’s a terrible airport.”
Dulles is one of three airports in the Washington area, and its quality and usefulness is a hotly debated topic among Washingtonians.
Former real estate mogul Trump said the Dulles building was good but “wrongly designed.” Still, he praised Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen, who designed the main terminal at Dulles.
“We’re going to turn this around and build Dulles airport, which serves Washington, Virginia, Maryland, etc. We’re going to turn this into something truly amazing. We have an amazing plan for that.”
His convoy made an unannounced trip through the Dulles terminal in early November. At the time, the White House said Trump wanted to go to the airport to evaluate potential future projects.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy added that the administration is continuing efforts to repair so-called “people movers” that carry passengers between concourses at Dulles. One had an accident in November.
Duffy said his agency will announce later Tuesday that they are seeking bids to repair people movers, also called “mobile lounges.”
