Josh Inglis Ashes debut, will replace Usman Khawaja in first Test on home soil at the Gabba

Josh Inglis will replace Usman Khawaja and play his first Test match on Australian soil at the Gabba on Thursday.

According to three sources with knowledge of team plans, Inglis will take up a middle-order role in place of Travis Head, who will open the batting alongside Jake Weatherald.

This imprint could reveal that all-rounder Beau Webster is set to miss out on the starting XI.

Acting Captain Steve Smith will address the media later on Wednesday.

Inglis played three Tests for Australia – two against Sri Lanka and one against the West Indies.

He plundered 102 off 94 balls in his first Test innings at Galle this year, becoming the first Australian since Adam Voges in 2015 to reach triple figures on debut.

Inglis entered the Gabba Test in fine form, scoring 40 and 125 in the Cricket Australia XI match against the England Lions last month.

However, due to international white-ball commitments, Inglis played only one Sheffield Shield match for Western Australia, making four and 28.
