The search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 will resume on December 30, the country’s transport ministry announced Wednesday, more than a decade after the plane mysteriously disappeared over the Indian Ocean.
The Malaysian government said Texas-based marine robot company Ocean Infinity will begin a 55-day targeted deep-sea search to find the missing plane in the southern Indian Ocean by the end of the month, the Associated Press reported.
On March 8, 2014, a Boeing 777 took off from Kuala Lumpur towards Beijing and disappeared approximately 90 seconds after leaving Malaysian airspace, disappearing along with all 239 passengers in what has become one of aviation’s greatest unsolved mysteries.
Satellite data revealed that the plane deviated from its flight path and headed south into the southern Indian Ocean, where it is believed to have crashed.

According to the statement made by the Malaysian Ministry of Transport, Ocean Infinity will search in targeted areas where it is believed to have the highest probability of finding the missing plane, AP reported.
“The latest development underlines the Malaysian government’s determination to provide closure to the families affected by this tragedy,” the transport ministry said. he said.
The announcement comes after the Malaysian government gave final approval for Ocean Infinity to begin the search in March after agreeing to a “no-find, no-fee” contract that would reward the company with $70 million if debris was found in just 5,800 square miles.

Wreckage has previously been found washed up off the coast of east Africa and on Indian Ocean islands, but a multinational search failed to find clues to MH370’s location.
Ocean Infinity also ran a private search in 2018 that failed to uncover anything, but CEO Oliver Plunkett reportedly said earlier this year that his company has since improved its technology.
