Iraqi terrorist who came to UK on small boat ‘paying £1k’ is jailed | UK | News

A convicted terrorist who arrived in the UK illegally on a small boat has been jailed for more than two years, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

Rebwar Hamad, 48, from Iraq, arrived with other immigrants on Sept. 19 and later pleaded guilty to entering the country without a valid entry permit, prosecutors said.

Hamad was said to have first arrived in the UK in 2001 and was given permission to stay indefinitely.

The CPS added that he was convicted of terrorism offenses during his absence in Italy in 2019 and extradited to serve his sentence the following year.

He was ordered to leave Italy within a week of his release, but when his UK visa application was refused he was said to have paid 1,200 euros (about £1,050) for a place on a small boat which was later stopped off Dover.

Hamad was sentenced to two years and three months in prison at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday.

Peter Cockrill, of the CPS, said: “Rebwar Hamad showed a blatant disregard for immigration rules by coming to the UK illegally for a second time after serving a prison sentence for terrorism offenses in Italy.

“The CPS argued in court that for these reasons he should receive the harshest possible sentence.”
