A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has ruled that some evidence linked to an ally of former FBI Director James Comey is outside the Justice Department’s bounds in its efforts to prosecute the former director.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said the Justice Department could not use information regarding Daniel Richman.

“Considering Petitioner Daniel Richman’s Temporary Restraining Order, the applicable legal authority, and all available records, the Court concludes that Petitioner Richman is entitled to a narrow temporary restraining order to maintain the status quo, while the Court considers the Request for Return of Possession and awaits full briefing and argument from the parties,” the decision states.

The report said the facts “favor an immediate, temporary order to maintain the status quo before the Government can provide a response.”
