President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States will “get paid to protect” the Strait of Hormuz, the epicenter of the re-escalating war with Iran and a major oil shipping route.

“We’ll protect the Strait and we’ll probably run it,” Trump said in a phone interview with Fox News.

“We will be the guardian of the Bosphorus, perhaps we will call it the guardian angel of the Bosphorus,” he said. “And we must be rewarded for that.”

“We cannot be expected to do this in vain, unlike what we have been doing for years,” he added. “We protected him in vain and now we will protect him, we will get paid for protecting him. A lot of money.”
