Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India met with the Prime Minister’s Office late on Tuesday evening, December 9, 2025, to discuss IndiGo’s recent flight disruptions and review measures to address passenger complaints regarding refunds, missing baggage and crowd management at airports.
The meeting came after Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu met IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, who summoned the Ministry and subsequently ordered cancellation of 10% of flights, focusing on the airline’s response to deal with passenger issues due to cancellation of over 5,000 flights since November.

The airline decided to eliminate 400 to 500 flights to stabilize its flight schedule or double what the government ordered.
An airline official said passengers will now be notified at least 72 hours in advance in case of flight cancellations; This process failed last week due to a system-wide failure. As a result, many passengers arrived at airports to find their flights delayed for hours and eventually cancelled; This led to overcrowding and angry clashes with IndiGo ground staff.
The airline currently operates a total of 1,800 of approximately 2,200-2,300 flights daily.
The airline refunded ₹829 crore to passengers and 4,500 of the 9,000 lost luggage were handed over to its customers.
