IndiGo flight disruptions: Board approves appointment of Captain John Illson for independent expert review

IndiGo’s Board of Directors on Friday, December 12, 2025, approved the appointment of Chief Aviation Advisors LLC, led by Captain John Illson, to conduct an independent expert review and root cause analysis of major flight disruptions at the airline.

In the press release, it was stated that he brings more than forty years of aviation experience to the FAA, ICAO, IATA and major global carriers.

Captain Illson brings extensive expertise in global aviation strategy, customized consulting, safety leadership, international standard setting and new aircraft technologies.

The statement also stated that the goal is to conduct an independent root cause analysis of the recent operational disruption, as well as improvement opportunities.

This decision is in line with the recommendation of the Crisis Management Group (CMG) constituted by the Board of Directors of IndiGo. The CMG recommended an independent expert review of the matter as part of its assessment.

With Board approval now available, the review will begin at the earliest and the expert reviewer will provide a comprehensive report to the Board upon completion.
