Cold weather maps show exact date over Christmas subzero Polar blast hits Britain | Weather | News

The UK is expected to be hit by a freezing arctic blast over the festive period. WXCharts predicts temperatures will drop to -2C in places and winter weather will occur on December 28th.

The coldest area will be in southern Scotland (Dumfries, Galloway) where it will drop to -2C. The rest of southern Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow) and parts of central Scotland (Dundee, Aberdeen) will be between 0C and -1C. Additionally, temperatures in the south of England (Bristol, Oxford, Luton, London) and East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich) will be between 0C and -1C. The rest of the UK will be between 1C and 4C. The Met Office said of the period: “Unstable and generally mild at first, with showers or prolonged rain affecting the UK from time to time. Some heavy rain is possible everywhere, but is likely to be heaviest and most persistent in the west and north-west; sheltered parts of the east and south-east are generally drier.”

“Snow is likely to remain on high ground in the north. Strong winds are also possible, with the risk of storms at times, particularly along the coasts and high ground.

“During this period, conditions are likely to become calmer, rainfall amounts will decrease and drier weather will become more common.

“This could mean increased amounts of fog and frost overnight, with temperatures falling to the general average, but if fog persists or persists it will be cold.”

Tonight and Tonight: Rain and strong winds will spread across much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northwest England, perhaps reaching North Wales by dawn. It remains mostly dry further south, with a mix of cloudy and clear skies. A milder night away from the far southeast.

Sunday: Heavy rains begin in the northern regions and spread further south. Increasingly cloudy but mostly dry elsewhere. Windy in the north, stormy on the coasts.

Outlook from Monday to Wednesday: The uneasiness continues as the rain slowly moves southwards on Monday next week. A brief drier interlude develops before more rain falls westwards on Wednesday.
