In the official warning made by the university, it was stated that at least two people were killed and eight people were injured in the shooting attack at Brown University’s Barus & Holley Engineering Building on Saturday (local time). The university, located in Providence, Rhode Island, confirmed the deaths and said eight more victims were hospitalized and were in critical but stable condition.

A black-clad attacker killed at least two people and injured eight others during final exams at Brown University’s Ivy League campus. According to reports, the university told students and faculty to lock their doors, silence their phones and remain anonymous due to reports of an active shooter in the Barus and Holley engineering and physics building.
Brown University is still on lockdown, with students advised to keep their doors locked and not move around campus. The east end of the Providence campus remains on lockdown as police search surrounding neighborhoods for the suspected shooter. University President Christina H Paxson acknowledged the fear and anxiety gripping the community and urged everyone to stay sheltered in their homes.
Brown University Shooting: Authorities issue active shooter alert
The alert reads, “While law enforcement continues to search the area, authorities have issued a shelter-in-place order. We are providing an update on the active shooting situation. We are deeply sorry to share that we have confirmed reports of two victims deceased in the active shooting situation at the Barus & Holley engineering building. There are eight additional victims hospitalized in critical but stable condition. The shelter-in-place order remains in place. The shooter or shooters are not currently in custody. Law enforcement is active in the area.” The university acknowledged widespread fear and uncertainty following the incident, adding that police were trying to identify the deceased victims while hospital staff were trying to identify those transported for medical treatment.
According to CNN’s report based on Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, authorities said that no suspects have been detained while investigations into the shooting at the university continue. Brown University officials said the City of Providence and the FBI are closely coordinating efforts to find the shooter or shooters. Providence Deputy Police Chief Tim O’Hara said at a press conference that the suspected attacker was a man dressed in black. “We are using every available resource to find this suspect,” he said, according to CNN, and urged the public to stay away from the area. He added that police are still trying to determine how the suspect entered the Brown University building, but confirmed he exited from the Hope Street side.
Meanwhile, according to CNN, citing law enforcement sources, police officers had a gunfight with a person a few blocks away from the university, but it remains unclear whether this incident is connected to the shooting at Brown University.
