Body camera footage captured the dramatic rescue of a baby trapped inside a vehicle in rising floodwaters on Saturday, as floodwaters dragged the car into a creek in Beeville, Texas.
The incident, which occurred about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio, occurred as severe storms dumped rain on the area and quickly turned roads dangerous.
According to police, the sudden downpour flooded the low-water crossing, striking a vehicle entering the crossing.
“Recently, officers and firefighters responded after a vehicle entered a flooded creek crossing and was pushed by fast-moving water,” the Beeville Police Department said in a Facebook post Saturday. he said.

Authorities warned that conditions deteriorated within minutes and noted that the rapidly falling rain did not leave time for barricades to be set up before the vehicle reached the crossing.
Police said a fire chief who assisted at the scene tried to stop the driver, who was unable to see the crew in time.
In the images, it can be seen that the vehicle was stranded because the water level rose rapidly and reached the top of the wheels. In the video, a police officer can also be heard reporting that the car was pushed into the creek due to overflowing water.

While the teams were assessing the situation, the driver was heard shouting to the nearby police that there was a baby in the vehicle.
The responding officer then ran through the floodwaters, opened the door and pulled out the car containing the baby.
After carrying the baby to safety, another responder was seen putting on a jacket to protect the child from the continuing rain.

Police said, “Thankfully, no one was injured,” and stated that the driver was rescued from the vehicle safely.
Beeville police used the video as a stark warning about the dangers of floodwaters, emphasizing that “what seems reasonable one minute can quickly become dangerous the next.”
“It doesn’t take much water flow to push a vehicle off the road, and by the time you realize how dangerous it is, it may be too late,” the ministry said.
“If there are barricades around a road or crossing, please do not go around them. They are there for a reason. Going around barricades not only puts lives at risk, it is also a criminal offence.”

Motorists are urged to slow down during heavy rain and avoid flooded areas, including stream crossings and other low-lying roads.
“No job, shortcut or destination is worth risking your life or the safety of your family,” police added.
