Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday (December 14, 2025) challenged the BJP to contest and win a “fair election” through ballot papers, saying election commissioners (ECs) will one day have to answer to the nation about how they “conspired” to take away people’s right to vote.

He claimed that the increasing unemployment rate led young people to substance abuse and betting practices. He claimed that an official in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) was linked to people behind a betting app but did not name anyone.

“The youth of the country are struggling with price increases, unemployment and leakage of exam papers, and there is no one to help them. They turn to substance abuse and spend all day on betting apps. Who runs these betting apps? According to sources, a person from PMO is involved in betting fraud. Is this issue being discussed in the Parliament?” he asked.

As the party intensifies its campaign against allegations of “vote theft”, Ms. Vadra named Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as those who are “attacking” India’s democracy.

“For the first time in history, the entire opposition states that they do not trust the EC and that the elections were not conducted properly. From announcement of polls to voter lists, from behavioral patterns to campaigns, from polls to counting, from EVMs to results, every step has been thrown into doubt by them (election commissioners),” he said.

“I am challenging. The BJP needs to contest a fair election on the ballot paper once. They will never win and the BJP knows this fact,” he added.

Referring to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, he said: “65 lakh votes were removed in Bihar and even if you put that evidence aside, during the model code of conduct in Bihar, they sent Rs 10,000 to people’s bank accounts while the EC looked the other way. If this is not vote theft, then what is?”
