UPS stole Christmas season wages: New York lawsuit

New York Attorney General Letitia James accuses delivery giant POWER SUPPLY They’re scamming seasonal vacation workers out of millions of dollars in wages they’re legally owed, a new report finds case He applied on Monday.

James’ office said an investigation “revealed that UPS had for years shortchanged seasonal workers who kept the company running by failing to record all hours worked during peak vacation demand, requiring widespread off-hours work, and manipulating timekeeping systems to reduce paid hours.”

The lawsuit, filed 10 days before Christmas in Manhattan Supreme Court, alleges that UPS failed to pay seasonal workers minimum wage, promised wages and overtime pay, in violation of state and federal labor law.

“UPS commits wage theft against these workers in countless ways each year,” the civil complaint states.

The lawsuit states that UPS employs thousands of temporary workers at at least 55 facilities in New York state during its peak season, which runs from October to January.

UPS said in its statement: We are aware of the news from the New York Attorney General’s Office and, as a matter of policy, do not comment on pending litigation. “UPS takes all allegations of wrongdoing seriously and investigates the matter thoroughly.”

“We offer industry-leading wages and benefits to our more than 26,000 employees in New York and are committed to complying with all applicable laws,” the company said.

The lawsuit seeks a finding that UPS repeatedly violated wage and labor laws, an injunction prohibiting the company from engaging in the alleged illegal practices, and monetary awards.

“UPS built its holiday business on the backs of workers who were not compensated for their time and effort,” James said in a statement.

“UPS seasonal employees work brutal hours in the cold to deliver the holiday packages that families across the country rely on. Instead of paying these workers fairly for their labor, UPS played the Grinch,” James said.
