Rob Reiner’s son Nick arrested in connection with deaths of his parents | Film

Nick Reiner was arrested on suspicion of murder following the deaths of his parents, famed actor-director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, according to Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell.
Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody Sunday night. Police said jail records show bail was initially set at $4 million, but Nick Reiner was later ordered held without bail.

Nick Reiner is a screenwriter who previously worked with his father on Being Charlie (2015), which was based on his own experiences with addiction and homelessness. He first began treatment for drug addiction as a teenager and said he went to rehab more than 17 times by the time he was 22.
Being Charlie tells the story of an 18-year-old man who believes his parents’ (including a father, a movie star running for Congress) overly harsh reaction to his addiction, including mandatory rehab.
Rob Reiner, who promoted the film, said that most of the film is based on autobiography.
“We wouldn’t listen when Nick told us it wasn’t working for him,” she told the LA Times. “We were desperate and we listened to people when we should have listened to our son because they had diplomas on their walls.”
His wife added: “We were so impressed by these people. They would tell us that he was a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.”
Nick Reiner added that he was “tired” of being addicted: “I come from a good family. I’m not supposed to be out on the streets and in homeless shelters doing all this… stuff.”
She told People in 2016 that she had “been home for so long, and I was kind of getting used to being in Los Angeles again and being around my family.”
