Two Assam Rifles soldiers killed, several injured in ambush by militants in Manipur

The incident took place around 1.30 pm in Nungshang Khong area in the hill district when suspected militants opened fire on a convoy of paramilitary forces, a senior officer said.
State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam condemned the attack on security forces and claimed that such an incident disrupts peace and harmony in the conflict-ridden state.
“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate ambush of 40 Assam Rifles convoy at Nungshang Kong in Ukhrul,” the minister said in a post on X.
He expressed confidence that the security forces will take all necessary measures to ensure that those responsible for the attack are dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
Security forces have been conducting search operations and area dominance in fringe and sensitive areas across Manipur since the outbreak of ethnic violence three years ago.
More than 260 people have died and thousands have been left homeless in the ethnic conflicts between the Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
