When is trash pickup around Christmas for New Hanover towns?

Because Christmas Day falls on a Thursday this year, some New Hanover County towns’ holiday trash pickup schedules may change.
Here’s what you need to know.
Wilmington
City offices will be closed December 24-26.
Collections for recycling and garbage customers, who are normally served on Thursdays, will be held on Wednesday, December 24th. All services (garbage, garden waste, recycling, bulk) will be carried out on Wednesday. It will be Blue Week for recycling.
All major, metal and electronic appointments on December 24, 26 or 29 must be scheduled by 4pm on December 23.
Real Christmas trees are collected on a regular bin day and treated as garden waste. All lights, ornaments and decorations must be removed.
Artificial trees are not garden waste and should be planned as one large collection. Bulk collections will be scheduled on the next regular trash day. Customers must call or submit information online to make an appointment for the bulky truck.
Regular and glossy wrapping papers that do not contain metallic particles, glitter, plastic coatings or special additives can be recycled. The following items cannot be recycled and should be thrown in the trash: foil or metallic wrapping paper, plastic wrapping films or bubble wrap, styrofoam or packing “peanuts,” shiny or dense laminated paper, ribbons, bows, and non-paper accessories.
RTS will collect overflow recycling on the customer’s designated collection day according to the following rules: cardboard must be shredded and stacked neatly next to the recycling cart; Loose, clean recycling can be placed in a cardboard box (to be recycled) or a personal container under 35 gallons.
As for the New Year’s Eve program, city offices and the New Hanover County Landfill will be closed on Thursday, January 1. Recycling and trash Thursday customers will pick up their collections on Wednesday, December 31. All services (trash, yard waste, recycling, bulk) will start on Wednesday. It will be Green Week for recycling.
All major, metal and electronic appointments on December 31st or January 2nd must be scheduled by 4pm on December 30th.
Carolina Beach
Carolina Beach did not receive a holiday trash pickup schedule from GFL Environmental until Dec. 11, a town employee said.
Kure Beach
There will be no change to Kure Beach’s normal holiday trash pickup schedule, according to Mandy Sanders, the town’s executive director.
During the first two weeks of January, the public works department will collect discarded Christmas trees for free. During this period, trees are requested to be left on the land for collection. The city said if additional debris remains near the tree, a standard fee will be charged for removal of that debris.
Wrightsville Beach
The town will not collect trash on Christmas Day, December 25, or New Year’s Day, January 1. Anyone scheduled for garbage collection on Thursday or Friday will have their garbage collected on December 26 and January 2.
Christmas recycling, 200 Parmela Blvd. Can be dropped off at Wrightsville Public Works at. December 29 to January 19. People are asked to throw their trees into the green container in front of the public works facility.
