Trump warns US Olympic team could suffer without college sports fix

President Donald Trump warned that the United States “would no longer have an Olympic team” if not for the NCAA’s regulation of dwindling resources for some non-revenue-producing college sports in the United States
Trump made the warning at a White House ceremony honoring several recent NCAA champions in non-revenue sports.

“75 percent of the Olympians who compete for Team USA played as college athletes. If we don’t fix that, we won’t have much of an Olympic team because we have so many of these sports, especially some sports like the minor leagues, you can call it the major leagues, you can call it whatever you want, but we develop incredible athletes and train them to win gold medals,” Trump said Tuesday.
“Without college sports, without the ability to get into college sports and compete and really learn how to play and get better, we won’t have many Olympic teams anymore.”
Trump made the comments while honoring the NCAA champion Youngstown State bowling, Oklahoma State men’s golf, Texas A&M women’s volleyball, Wake Forest men’s tennis, Georgia women’s tennis, West Virginia mixed rifle and Florida State women’s soccer teams.
In fact, Trump rarely admitted to a skill he wasn’t very good at during his White House ceremony.
While honoring the Youngstown State bowling champions, Trump admitted he wasn’t a very good bowler.
“Bowling is not easy, I tried it, it doesn’t work very well for me. It’s actually very difficult. Very difficult,” Trump said.

The ceremony shed light on non-revenue-generating college sports, which Trump sought to protect with his latest executive order titled “Immediate National Action to Save College Sports.”
