Britain will be hit by a new ‘Beast from the East’ and five days of snow just hours after Christmas Day. The latest weather maps show parts of the country will be hit by wintry conditions between 27-31 December, when temperatures will drop to -6C as the extremely cold weather grips millions of Brits.
Snowfall is likely in East Anglia, the Pennines and even parts of the south-east, according to WXCharts weather maps. Showers will begin to affect the country at around 6am on 27 December, with areas around Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent initially seeing snow. However, according to maps, snow from the east will settle in the UK in the afternoon. Snow will settle in areas near Gloucester, Newcastle and Dundee by 6pm.
By midnight layers of snow will gather around Scotland, with parts of Dundee and Edinburgh the worst affected.
According to maps, winter weather is expected to cover areas from Aberdeen to Stoke-on-Trent as the cold weather continues to affect the whole country.
WXCharts’ weather maps also turn icy blue on December 30, showing temperatures could drop as low as -6C.
At around 6am, central and northern Scotland could wake up to the coldest weather, but maps show sub-zero temperatures will also quickly spread southwards into England and Wales.
The Met Office’s long-term weather forecast between 21 and 30 December is: “Initially unstable conditions are likely to persist, with low pressure likely concentrated somewhere in the south-west of the UK, while high pressure is trying to move in from the east towards northern areas.
“This means a broad eastward flow is occurring, while periods of rain or showers are increasingly confined to the south or southwest.
“The signal is that high pressure will become more dominant over time, and drier, calmer weather is expected. However, temperatures will likely be slightly lower than in recent weeks, close to average or slightly below average for some.”
“Night frost and fog or freezing fog may become more common, but particularly cold conditions appear unlikely at this stage.”
